Inability To Handle Stress Most Likely Leads To Early Death Unless…

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

If someone you love or you are a “worry-wart”, reading the rest of this article may prevent several deadly diseases and add years to your life. Allow me to explain. Why some people are healthy and others get sick has been a researched and heavily debated topic for a long, long time. Some give almost all the credit to genes. Basically you are pre-programmed at birth. Mother nature has dealt you a certain “hand” and that’s it. You will either be healthy, or sick, and there is nothing much you can do about it.

Let’s consider for example, the “cancer gene.” If cancer is “in your genes,” you’re doomed. If not, you’re lucky. Supporters of this philosophy commonly use this example as proof: One person is young, eats all the right food and exercises and still gets cancer or has a massive heart attack. Yet, someone else eats junk, smokes, drinks and never exercised a day in their life and lives to be 95.

Funny thing is you often hear these people say, “You can walk out of your house and get hit by a bus tomorrow,” as an excuse to completely neglect their health and future. Others don’t give genes much credit. They say it’s ALL (or at least MOST) how you live your life and take care of yourself. And then there are those somewhere in between. To them, both genes and how you live your life are important factors.

Their argument is that the youthful man or girl that took care of himself or herself and still got sick would have gotten sick sooner. And, the 99 year-old may have lived even longer if he or she took care of himself or herself. Obviously, all this is something to think about. Genes obviously have something to do with our potential. But by how much is it? And is it as limiting as many once thought? The simple fact that our average life span is much different today than it was a century ago should tell you something. There are factors that affect our lifespan and help determine if we live those years healthy and happy or sick and miserable. Which you decide is important.

According to an April 5, 2007 issue of Science Daily, there is a broad consensus that there are five basic personality traits in most individuals. These five personality traits are extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability and openness to experience. There are also sub-categories – but these five are what makes us up overall. But here’s what’s really important in all of this. Two of these traits are emotional stability and conscientiousness. These appear to be directly linked to your health and how long you may live. How is this? In psychology, the lack of emotional stability is called neuroticism. In other words, it’s a person’s tendency towards hand wringing and negative thinking. It is believed by many that high levels of neuroticism are inherited and such people do not handle pressure very well. They are often moody, anxious and uncomfortable in their daily activity. Studies have also shown a correlation to increased mortality rates in these individuals.

So, if “neuroticism” is inherited and leads to health problems and increased mortality, are some people simply pre-programmed to be unhealthy and die young? That’s where a Purdue University psychologist comes into the picture. According to the April 5, 2007 issue of Science Daily: “Mroczek decided to explore this idea. Using a standard measure of neuroticism, he tracked more than 1,600 men over 12 years, recording not only how neurotic they were at the start, but also whether they got more or less neurotic over time. He also looked at mortality risk for these same men over an 18-year span. As reported in the May issue of Psychological Science, those who increased over time in neuroticism was a ticket to an early grave. In other words, these men–all middle age or older to begin with–did not grow old gracefully. They likely got more and more stressed, worried or fretful, and this downward spiral increased their risk for dying, mostly from cancer and heart disease. The good news is that men with a fretful temperament, if they managed for whatever reason to calm down a bit over time, had survival rates similar to those of emotionally stable men.”

So what’s the big lesson here in regards to your health and your longevity? First, it seems pretty clear your outlook does a whole heck of a lot more than just affect your success in business! Several studies show the way you think can have a weighty impact on how fit or under par you are. Namely diseases like cancer and heart disease. How? We don’t think anybody knows 100% for sure. It makes sense that pressure and the way you handle it produces chemicals like cortisol that suppress the immune system. This will have countless detrimental effects like aging.

But the real point here is what’s the difference? Who really cares exactly how all this works on the cellular level? The bottom line is: it happens. Negative thinking, a lot of it, over a comprehensive period of time will almost certainly age you, make you ill and take years off your life. And, an even more important point: altering the way you think and handle stress can stop the process.

How do you learn to deal with stress if you are a natural born “worry-wart?” The first thing is to realize NOTHING is ever as good or bad as it seems. And always change the things you can and forget about the things you can’t. Besides that, routine exercise programs and meditation have both been shown to reduce stress. Maybe if we start enjoying this wonderful life a little – it will get even better and we will get more of it! You can change the way you handle stress and reduce the negative effects. Or, at least that’s what the above-mentioned study shows. And it only makes sense. Have you ever taken a walk in the dark and had some loud noise scare you? What happened? Your eyes widened. Your heartbeat drastically increased. Your brain signaled your body to produce adrenalin and other “flight or fight” chemicals were dumped into your bloodstream. At that very moment, you were wide awake, stronger than usual and could run like an Olympic track star! But what happens shortly afterward? You crash… right? You come back down and feel exhausted. This, my friends, is a natural high and hangover. When you are constantly stressed and worry and don’t deal with it well… you will continually go through a similar reaction. Your body and mind basically go through the ringer. It just makes sense that if you learn how to deal with the stress more effectively – you will be healthier and lives longer. Panic Attack – What You Should Do

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Having a panic attack for your very first time could be disconcerting not just because of the physical experience during the panic attack though also because you’ll produce a fear of later panic attacks. Also regarded as the anticipatory anxiety, fear of future attacks brings about continuous fear and tension making it so you cannot take it easy. Often when this affliction isn’t taken care of, it will lead to phobic avoidance in which you avoid places, circumstances, social gatherings, and events in which emergency help is not immediately accessible or a place where having an attack can be embarrassing. At worst, this condition may end in a fear of open spaces wherein you begin to circumvent much of the things that you normally do so to divert those issues, take under advisement the following suggestions:

1. Consult your Physician. Ailments related to such attacks such racing heart, chest agony, heavy breathing, profuse sweating, excitement, etc., are also related to different physical and psychological conditions. Looking for correct analysis from the physician, therefore, will rule out any source that is not related to anxiety. Advise your doctor your ailments the time the attack happened and how intense the attack was. Your physician would inquire about your previous medical details and might perform a few tests (such as urine test, blood test, drug screens, and any others he deems necessary).

2. Consult a therapist that’s adequately educated to deal with such psychological condition. No, you are not crazy (people who visit a therapist are not insane), you just need to see a therapist to work through the feelings and stop future attacks. Do not wait too long to seek help because left untreated, a panic attack can be a gateway to the more serious ailments. The therapist might give you cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure therapy to process your thoughts.

4. Acquire new relaxation techniques. Music, meditation, yoga, and breathing techniques are not only good in eliminating the symptoms during the actual attack though additionally with magnifying the body’s relaxation response and can be practiced in any location.

5. Do not add more fear. Absorbing all the fears and other negative ideas which accompany anxiety attack just leads to additional fear which increases the detrimental impact even further. Instead, recognize that you’re frightened and make that function in your favor.

6. Employ a healthful lifestyle. Studies prove that at little as 30 minutes of physical activity 3 to 5 times per week is a great tension reliever, good for stopping later attacks. Balanced diet keeps the supply of goodness and maintains the equilibriumof chemicals within your body. Sleeping about 8 hours each day recharges your body, freshens your mind, and relaxes your muscle groups.

7. Remove all unneeded stress. Since, attacks are very linked to stress, abstaining from items, people, and situations which cause stress help reduce the possibility of later attacks.

8. Learn about panic attacks. There are several resources where you may learn more about the ailment. Reading books, health periodicals and even web articles regarding these attacks would definitely arm you with the proper information on how to fight any negative ailments it brings.

Many doctors prescribe (and often prescribe incorrectly) medication to control panic attacks. Medication isn’t a true cure for panic attacks though! All it does is brush the symptoms under the carpet out of sight. When you stop the medication you discover the panic attacks return and typically you have to cope with withdrawal effects from the medication. Beck Anxiety Inventory Questions: What You Need To Know

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

The Beck anxiety inventory questions are designed in such a way that they distinguish between the symptoms of anxiety and those of depression. They are simple and straightforward, and can be used for accurate testing of anxiety levels in individuals.

The respondent should keep in mind that they are required to indicate how they have been feeling for the past one week. The questions in the inventory are written in phrases which are in conversational language, making them easy to read and understand.

A few examples of the questions that are cited in the inventory:

1. I get a sort of frightened feeling as if something awful is about to happen…

2. I have a good sense of humor and see the funny side of things…

3. I can sit at ease and feel relaxed…

4. I get a sudden feeling of panic…

5. I look forward with enjoyment to things…

Respondents are given four choices to pick their answer from. They can tick or put an “x” in the space provided, and the answers chosen have the corresponding rating number. For example, the choices for question 1 may be:

3 – Definitely and quite severely

2-Yes, but not too badly

1 – To a small extent, but it doesn’t concern me

0-Not at all

The given answers are often written in a way that most individuals can easily comprehend as well as relate to, and this is why the inventory is a great tool for evaluation purposes. The answers are summed up and tallied to derive at a total score, which is then used to interpret the anxiety level of the respondent. Some critics of the Beck Anxiety inventory however have disagreements with the questions.

The first argument is that the listed questions are too generic to encompass the diversity of each individual who takes the Beck inventory. They contend that the minds and personalities of human beings are far too complex and that the inventory questions don’t address many of these elements. An exemplary example: The root cause of anxiety is often due to one’s attachment to labels and titles, and the inventory doesn’t cover this aspect.

The second criticism of the inventory questions is that they fail to consider the mentality of the respondents. Instead, the questions dwell too much on the symptoms of their anxieties. This causes the evaluation to be one sided as it doesn’t encompass the entire human psyche. To improve the inventory, the critics suggest the addition of questions that require the respondent to reflect on his life. This will allow the evaluators to determine the real cause of the anxiety.

Yet another argument is that the questions in the inventory do not lead to solutions to the anxiety problems for the respondents. They simply identify and categorize the anxiety levels and leave the respondent to find their own solutions. This shows the limitations of the inventory.

While the inventory is not without its limitations and room for improvement, it is often a good start for sufferers of anxiety problems to become proactive in seeking treatment. They are more aware of their emotional and mental state of mind. The Beck anxiety questions are excellent for leading off a round of research related to anxiety test, diagnosis and subsequent treatment of one’s anxiety.

Why Do I Feel Weird Months After Panic Attack?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Most sufferers of panic attacks often take a while to regain their composure and heal from the disorder. The contributing factors of panic attacks are often stress related. A person who allows his panic attacks to go untreated often experience aggravated episodes over time. Most people often confide in their therapists or loved ones and tell them this: “I feel weird months after a panic attack.”To that end, they often ask themselves why is it that they feel this way.

Panic Attacks are Caused by Stress

A panic attack disorder as mentioned before is normally stress related. It is understood that we live in very demanding times and going through life itself is a major hustle for everybody. The levels of demands in our families, in our education, at the work place and in so many other different areas of our lives are almost overwhelming. We live in a result oriented world where only success matters. That is a major contributor to the raised levels of stress in any person today.

In this regard it is then no wonder when statistics and reports show a marked increase of panic attack and related cases among the wider population. Many people are suffering from panic attacks and related cases today than in any other time in the past. This trend is said to be set to continue into the foreseeable future.

An Added Cause in Itself, Panic Attacks Can Exacerbate

Victims of panic attacks who let their condition go untreated are only giving it a chance to deteriorate. The symptoms of the condition often strike one without warning and they instil a sense of fear in the victims. Remember, stress is the contributing factor of panic attacks and since stress is inherent in our everyday lives, the condition will not better by itself.

The victim will first go through short bursts of panic attacks that strike them periodically. Over time, the episodes increase in frequency and the duration becomes longer. One must seek immediate help from a doctor. Most sufferers are not worried when they experience their first short attacks. It is when the episodes begin to affect them regularly and more seriously that they become proactive.

I Feel Weird Months After Panic Attacks

With each growing day as you suffer the symptoms, you will start experiencing behavioral change which is occasioned by the condition. This is the biggest reason why you as a victim might start feeling strange or weird. This is because of the psychological scars that this condition might inflict in you even after you heal from the disorder.

Stop Worrying

So the next time you think, ‘I feel weird months after panic attacks’, note that it is not a major problem and you should not let it affect you in any way. We all know it is not a light condition and what you are experiencing is normal. With more time it will go away especially if you continue to seek good help.

Herbs That You Can Use For Anxiety

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

There are many forms of medicines that you can use to stave off stress and the symptoms. In recent years, there is an increasing population of people who prefer holistic methods of treatments to modern medicine, and thus this propelled the comeback of using of herbs for anxiety relief. Herbal remedies have existed for many centuries and are not solely used by those with anxiety attacks but those who need an antidote to the common diseases as well.

In every culture, there is a prominent figure that is revered for his knowledge in herbal remedies. This knowledge has been passed on from generation to generation. There is a rich history in the administering of herbal remedies for anxiety and their effectiveness has been known to man. However, there are detractors of this form of treatment, and they term it “witchcraft medicine”. Its relative affordability and safety for use over synthesized drugs has made herbs the preferred choice of treatment in the modern world.

Early Beginnings Of Herbalism

Anxiety stirs in every living person periodically. It is when these emotions arise for no apparent reason that there is a cause for concern. One must identify the root of the problem immediately if recovery is desired. Until he can achieve mental wellness, he can use the myriad of natural herbal remedies to fight off the effects of stress.

The use of herbs for anxiety disorders is now being used in conjunction with current drug therapies to achieve homeostasis. In fact, botanicals are even used to combat the side effects of currently prescribed medications. Many people now have herbal gardens that yield plants that are specific to their particular need. Imagine the convenience of having a remedy for the restlessness or insomnia that accompanies anxiety disorders growing in a window box outside your front door.

Greek physician Claudius Galen was the one who discovered the medicinal value of herbs in 200 AD. Long before his time, his fellow countryman Hippocrates theorised that the attainment of full body wellness required a healthy diet, regular exercise and ingesting health supplements such as herbal remedies.

Herbs are becoming increasingly popular due to their sedentary effects and are often used as sleep inducers. Some examples of the common herbs used are Lemon Balm, St John’s Wort, Valerian and Kava. Chamomile is also good for its ability to restore calmness in one’s mind. It is hard to imagine that Romans led a highly stressful life as compared to us, but surely they do.

Other Herbs For Anxiety

Anxiety is a primordial emotion that every human being will feel almost close to a daily basis. Its sole purpose is to alert us to stressful situations and sometimes one is unable to control it. Passionflower is known for its tranquilizing effects and is used to combat sleeplessness brought on by anxiety.

Rosemary leaves are great for tea and can be used to soothe and invigorate a stressed out person. Indulge in a warm baking soda bath and alleviate any muscle tension. Get your partner to massage your body with sesame oil and you will get to enjoy the soothing and therapeutic sensation. Medical marijuana is also very potent in calming a person down and is used as a treatment option for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) patients.

One of the greatest advantages of using herbs for anxiety is it doesn’t cause the patient to become over reliant on it. Addiction rarely happens. The use of herbal remedies has become a trend, one that is proven to show results no less, and it is a treatment worth exploring.

Panic Anxiety Attacks: Must Read Information

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Panic anxiety attacks are a phenomenon that occurs when a person cannot control their emotions to the point of being incapacitated. Their mental state is so agitated that they cannot function in a normal manner. The onset of an attack presents swiftly and without warning in persons who are early in their diagnosis.

Should the disorder aggravates, the victim becomes more susceptible to the attacks and even the slightest trigger can cause them to become frantic. There are many symptoms that may hint at the possibility of an anxiety attack, and they always act up prior to and during the episode. Some of the symptoms are:

* Increase in heart rate and palpitations

*Giddiness; the victim feels as if he’s about to blackout

*Quivering

* A dizzy feeling; the victim’s constitution is weak and he feels as if he’s about to faint

* Trembling

* Chest Pain

* Shortness of breath; the victim feels as if he’s smothered

* Hot flashes or chills

*Nausea

* A fear of losing control

*A crippling fear that one is about to die

The Cause Of Anxiety Attacks

Panic anxiety attacks are brought on by feelings that one’s situation has become so dire that there is no way out, in fact severe episodes have the sufferer believing that they will surely not survive, they are convinced that they will die on the spot. As you can imagine, such overwhelming feelings tend to intensify a situation already spiralling out of control.

Grief and depression are two emotional states that can bring about anxiety attacks. Medical conditions such as chemical imbalance, low blood sugar and thyroid disorder can trigger the onset of anxiety attacks as well. Some stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol, antihistamines, nicotine and amphetamines are known to increase the probability of an attack. One of the best ways to avoid an anxiety attack is to remove all these factors from one’s life.

It is a chained effect: Panic anxiety attacks are a symptom of mood disorders, and mood disorders are symptoms of a condition that is far more debilitating. Thus, if you have developed a phobia for a living thing such as cat, it is important that you delve deeper and understand your fear of cats, instead of just knowing that you are afraid of cats. Identify the cause of your fears.

Stamp out the root of the problem, overcome all your fears and you will be able to eliminate the possibility of an anxiety attack. It is important to diagnose the condition at an early stage and seeking treatment should be your topmost priority. If left untreated, the condition can deteriorate into something worse.

The Nexus Of The Crisis

If you are beginning to experience panic anxiety attacks more frequently, it is time to seek professional help. Two times a week is enough cause for you to take the matter more seriously. Your health care provider will conduct some lab tests such as blood work and ECG to determine your medical condition. It is also likely that he will go through your medical history, taking note of any recent troubling incidents or stressful situations in your life. This will allow him to zero in on the core of the problem. Psychotherapy is just as important in your course of treatment and you should seek solace in your friends or loved ones who care greatly about you.

Why Do People Have Panic Attacks?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

“Why do people have panic attacks?” is one of the first questions anyone will ask when engaged in a discussion of the condition. There are many reasons for panic attacks and understanding them will help you avoid from experiencing them. The underlying causes of panic attacks are unique to every individual, although there are some common ones.

Genetic Predisposition To Panic Attacks

The major cause of panic attacks is genetic disposition. This means if someone in your family has a history of panic attacks, you are at risk of getting them. If you are surrounded by people who are living stressful lives, meaning people who are at a high risk of getting panic attacks, your chances of getting panic attacks will be high.

Lack of a Nutritious Diet

An unhealthy diet, one that is filled with junk food, is a big cause of panic attacks. Fast food is often the last resort as people are too busy with their lives to have a decent meal. Our body requires essential nutrients such as Vitamin B, Magnesium and Calcium. A lack of these nutrients can trigger a panic attack. Food must also be taken in moderation.

Highly Stressful Work Environments

Stress is one of the major causes of panic attacks and one source of stress is a pressurized working environment. Such environments include work places where there are strict deadlines, long hours, pressure from bosses, lack of job security, and strenuous work. Pressurized working environments can lead to panic attacks for employees and employers alike. Employers suffer from panic attacks when they are not making enough money, when there is a new competitor and when employees are not working as they should.

Lack of Knowledge on How to Handle Panic Attacks

Many people are not conversant in the topic of panic attacks and that is why they are unable to deal with them. Knowledge must be acquired in these areas:

* The signs and symptoms of panic attacks

* Techniques to stave off panic attacks

* The difference between panic attacks and anxiety attacks

* Possible treatments for panic attacks

When answering the question, “Why do people have panic attacks”, one should understand that each individual reacts different to stress and we all have different ways in which we manage them. This means treatments and precautionary measures will too differ.

Animals and Insects

Some people are afraid of animals and insects, and they develop panic attacks when they see one. The sight of spiders often sends chills down one’s spill and this fear of spiders is clinically known as Arachnophobia. Some people are afraid of all types of spiders, even the ones that are not dangerous to human beings. There are others who run away whenever they spot a snake. Some humans are also afraid that the neighbour’s dog will bite them.

Character Traits

Individuals with a certain type of personality trait are more vulnerable to panic attacks. Introverts, worrywarts as well as perfectionists are prone to panic attacks. There are plenty of reasons to the question, “Why do people have panic attacks?

Picamilon: Anxiety Medication

Friday, February 12th, 2010

When considering Picamilon anxiety medication as a treatment, you should think about a few factors that will help steer you towards making the right decision. An ill informed customer will often end up harming his body.

The Alternatives

You should compare Picamilon with other drugs to make sure it is the best for you. You should make comparisons based on what you value, such as looking at quality if you are interested in quality more than cost. When you compare Picamilon with other anxiety drugs, you will find that it is among the best in the market. You should also consider alternative cures for your panic attacks such as seeking therapy if it can help with your condition.

Picamilon was synthesized in 1969 by the All-Union Scientific Research Institute and studies done indicated that the drug works. Clinicians have a great interest in Picamilon because it has a number of pharmacological properties which are lacking in similar drugs. Picamilon has several advantages and these are:

* It has a tranquilizing effect on the user

*It enhances one’s mood

*It quickly restores mental and physical fitness

*It has a nootropic effect

*It treats neurotic disorders that cause fear, anxiety, vegetative and emotional instability

How Much Does It Cost?

Many people always consider cost as one of the influencing factors before they make a purchase. Drugs that are sold over the Internet usually fetch a cheaper price. This is because there is a plethora of online stores, and the competiton is very tight. In a bid to iron out all the other competiton, the vendors have to keep the price of the drug to attract customers. Another reason why they can maintain such low prices is because they need not worry about overhead costs.

The Quality/How Genuine The Drug Is

You should be careful about how genuine the Picamilon anxiety drug is, especially when buying online. This is because there are many unscrupulous people who are selling drugs that are not Picamilon. You should therefore buy from credible and reliable online pharmacies. There are several ways of determining the credibility and reliability of an online pharmacy.

*You can ask for customer testimonials

*Check that the URL of the site starts with http, and look out for a small lock icon on the landing page

* Ask around or search the Internet to see what other users have to say of the online store

What Are The Side Effects?

Since Picamilon is a synthetic drug, it will have side effects since our bodies were designed to ingest organic substances only. You should therefore know what the side effects are and decide whether you are willing to live with them. It is therefore necessary that you get your doctor’s advice before buying Picamilon if you have a pre-existing medical condition such as a heart problem.

Once you are clear and willing to make a decision, you will discover that Picamilon is an excellent treatment choice. Picamilon anxiety medications can be found in all leading pharmacies, and this addresses yet another concern of buyers.

Great Tips on How To Stop Panic Attacks Now!

Friday, February 12th, 2010

These are only a few of the many tips on how to stop panic attacks. For more tips and procedures like these, there are many online programs that have been recommended and approved by many doctors across the country.

When you ask someone how to stop panic attacks, he/she might tell you to calm yourself. This might be possible, but the best thing to do is to get rid of the stimulus that causes the reaction. For instance, Jane might panic when she sees a snake on the floor. The only way that she will get calm is to destroy that particular stimulus, on the other words, kill the snake. Transferring is different from exterminating. Jane cannot be calm entirely if you just shoo the snake away.

One important tip on how to stop panic attacks would be by doing breathing exercise. We tend to breathe fast if we feel anxious, due to the fact that our heart does also beat faster as well. Everybody knows that the heartbeat is something that we cannot be able to control; therefore, we should try to control our breathing instead of calming our bodily reactions.

Lastly, people should realize that sometimes, panic attacks are blessings in disguise. Being exposed to an offending stimulus will develop habituation. A girl who sees a cockroach many times a week in her bedroom might make her become more used to it. Later on, she will feel less scared of it that she might actually exterminate it herself.

These are only tips on how to stop panic attacks. If you want to find more information, you might want to visit some of the programs available online which provides more effective ways to help you to stop panic attacks.
