Thursday, February 25th, 2010

There are several models of Acuvue contact lenses which are manufactured by Johnson & Johnson. The Acuvue Oasys and the Acuvue Advance use a technique which embeds a silicon wetting agent. This keeps the lenses very moist which aids in getting a smooth comfortable fit. Other models offered by Acuvue are the Acuvue 2 and the 1-DAY Acuvue.

All the different models of Acuvue lenses can be prescribed for near or farsightedness. The Acuvue 2 COLOURS, which has ten available colors, is used for changing or enhancing eye color. It does not correct vision.

With the Oasys lenses you may choose one of two replacement schedules. First, you can take them out and clean them on a daily basis for up to two weeks before replacing them with fresh lenses. You can also continuously wear them for up to six nights until trading them for a fresh set of lenses. The Acuvue Advance are replaced after two weeks of daily cleaning. You can wear the Acuvue 2 continuously for as long as six nights before using a fresh pair or you can go for two weeks with daily cleaning before using a fresh pair of lenses. As its name indicates, the 1-DAY Acuvue are worn for only 1 day and then thrown away to be replaced with a fresh pair.

The Oasys family of lenses provide excellent ultraviolet light protection. The Acuvue Oasys is rated at Class I UV protection with 96% UV-A and 100% UV-B radiation. The Acuvue Advance contacts also has a Class I UV rating with 93% UV-A and 99% UV-B radiation. The Acuvue 2 and the 1-Day Acuvue have Class II UV ratings with 82% UV-A and 97% UV-B radiation.

The Acuvue brand has invested a lot of resources in making sure their lenses have a smooth and comfortable fit. They use silicone hydrogel material that allows a high degree of available oxygen to be provided to the eyes. The Oasys uses senofilcon A and allows 98% of available oxygen to pass to the eyes. The Acuvue Advance uses alyfilcon A and allows 97% of available oxygen to be provided to the eyes. Both the Acuvue 2 and the 1-DAY Acuvue are constructed of etafilcon A providing 88% of available oxygen to the eyes.

The silicone hydrogel materials used in the construction of Acuvue lenses promote a comfortable and smooth fit. Two types of lenses, the Oasys and the Acuvue Advance use a patented HYDRACLEAR technology. The Oasys actually uses a new generation of HYDRACLEAR which is called HYDRACLEAR PLUS. The PLUS version has improved the comfort level in harsh environments.

The LACREON technology is used in the 1-DAY Acuvue MOIST. The LACREON is similar to HYDRACLEAR. It also embeds a wetting agent but it adds a wet cushion as well. This cushion mimics tears which greatly reduces friction and maintains moistness.

All the lenses in the Acuvue family are easy to handle. They are tinted a slight blue in order to make them visible when they are in their lens case. Inserting the lenses is made easier with a 1-2-3 mark.

There are special versions of Acuvue Oasys for astigmatism and for presbyopia. The Acuvue Advance also comes in a model for astigmatism. With all the different types and feature of Acuvue contact lenses no matter what your vision needs Acuvue will work well for you.
