Cellulite – 90% Of All Women Have It.

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Introduction

Cellulite is the lumpy substance looking like cottage cheese that is commonly seen on the thighs, stomach, and rear end. It is really a fancy name for collections of fat that press against the connective tissue beneath the skin, and causes the surface of the skin to dimple or pucker and appear lumpy. It is not weight related; average and underweight people have it too. Cellulite tends to be a wee bit less noticeable on darker skin and the condition is not the norm, if you have it, something “abnormal” is happening in your skin and fat cells, especially the subcutaneous (top level) level of the skin tissue. Some think cellulite to be a special type of “fat gone wrong,” a mixture of fat, water, and “toxic wastes” that the body has failed to eliminate, an embarassing problem that affects 90% of all women. Affected areas tend to be dehydrated and damaged, and require the extra benefits of moisture, protection, and increased blood supply.

Exercise

Smoking, lack of exercise, tight clothes, high heeled shoes, and sitting or standing in a one position for long periods of time have all been associated with an increase in cellulite. Dieting alone does not get rid of the dimpled appearance, however a balanced diet and exercise can help to reduce the fat content within the distorted cells, diminishing their contribution to the dimpling. If you and your MD think that you are overweight, eat fewer calories and exercise more frequently. Experts agree that an exercise routine that combines aerobic exercise with strength training is the best weapon to fight cellulite. It is important to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly to prevent the buildup.

Reduction

There are a few non-invasive, non-surgical therapies for skin contour irregularities that are approved by the FDA for the “temporary reduction” in the appearance of cellulite. Injections of various substances, from vitamins to medications to anesthetics, are useful for many ailments and conditions, including cellulite reduction. Use of aromatherapy oils like sage, cypress and juniper helps in the reduction and all of the above things combined will result in reducing cellulite.

Treatments

Whatever the cause, it’s important to know that there aren’t any miracle products, treatments, or medicines that can make it go away. For example, some salon treatments that promise to get rid of it simply cause your skin to puff up with deep massaging, temporarily reducing the appearance of cellulite. They may leave you with a feeling of invigoration, but long-term results have never been established either clinically or scientifically. Those that stimulate the blood flow to the skin may have beneficial effects when combined with the other principles of internal and external skin care.

Some exotic, but equally unproven treatments include electrical stimulation of muscle cells and applying an electric current to the fat tissue itself. Many treatments are not successful because they consider only the external appearance. One of the problems with many of the more invasive therapies is that they tend to damage something else, especially the dermis. Once you cease having treatments, your skin texture and tone will go back to their original state.

Conclusion

Cellulite describes a condition that occurs in both men and women where the skin of the lower limbs, abdomen, and pelvic region becomes dimpled after puberty and can be caused by a number of things, primarily due to smoking, stress, sedentary lifestyle and very poor eating habits. Practically all post-pubescent females show some degree of it. Hormones play a dominant role in the formation of cellulite and it seems to start, and aggravate its development.

Other hormones including insulin, the catecholamines, adrenaline, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin have all been shown to take part in the development of cellulite as have several genetic factors. Diet has also been proven to affect the development and amount. Excessive amounts of fat, carbohydrates, salt, alcohol or too little fiber can all contribute to an increase.

There are no supplements that have been approved as effective for reducing cellulite. You can check to see if you have it by pinching the skin around your upper thigh. Several factors determine whether a person has cellulite and how much they have. Your genes, your gender, the amount of fat on your body, your age, and the thickness of your skin are all associated with the amount you have or how visible it is. Treatments like liposuction (surgery to remove fat) and mesotherapy (injection of drugs into cellulite) are either expensive or may bring about only temporary improvement. Many MDs even warn that liposuction is not an effective therapy because liposuction is designed to remove deep fat instead of cellulite, which is close to the skin. If you decide that you want to attempt to reduce the amount you have, the best thing to do is to decrease excess body fat. When it comes to cellulite, don’t expect miracles.

Morning Sickness – Occurs In 50 To 80% Of New Mother’s To Be!

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Introduction

Morning sickness is the nauseating feeling you get while pregnant and may be, but is not always, accompanied by vomiting. These nauseous feelings, which can actually happen at any time of the day, can really put a damper on your excitement about being pregnant. It can only become a problem for your baby if you can not keep any food or fluids down and begin to drop a lot of weight. This problem and the others that occur at this time are nearly always mild enough to manage on your own and occurs in 50 to 80% of new mother’s to be.

Nausea and Vomiting

Nausea plus vomiting can be one of the 1st signs of pregnancy and routinely starts around the 6th week after conception and continue on past your 4th month of pregnancy. These signs usually disappear 12 to 14 weeks into pregnancy. Nausea and vomiting are the most common complaints of pregnant women and can be made worse by lying on her side. This nausea seems to stem, at least in part, from rapidly increasing levels of estrogen, which causes the stomach to empty more slowly.

You should always see your health care provider: If you are experiencing excessive nausea and vomiting that prevents you from retaining any food, If vomiting is accompanied with pain or fever, If nausea and vomiting persists well into the second trimester (after 13th week).

Treatment

The most important thing is to inform your health care doctor when these symptoms appear and talk about possible options. Severe morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum) may necessitate a stay in the hospital and treatment with intravenous (IV) fluids and medications, including anti-emetics, which control nausea. Many women do not seek treatment for morning sickness because of fears about treatment safety. But, once symptoms progress, treatment can become much more difficult. Mild occurences may be resolved with lifestyle and dietary changes, and safe and effective cures are available for severer cases.

Your best option for managing the nausea and vomiting is home treatment. These measures include: Changing what, when, and how much you consume. Therefore, during the 1st trimester use home treatment for your symptoms, unless your health care doctor recommends medication. Taking Vitamin B6 or Vitamin B6 plus doxylamine (an antihistamine) is safe and effective and should be considered a first-line treatment. Although ginger ale or ginger tea may ease mild nausea, your best bet for treating with ginger is with continous daily use.

As with all over-the-counter supplement, including herbs, it’s always a good idea to speak with your MD first, particularly to make certain the symptoms aren’t related to a more serious condition that needs medical therapy. However, few women get complete relief from morning sickness with any therapy. If you’re seeking medical advice, a diagnosis, or treatment, consult your MD or other qualified medical professional.

Conclusion

Morning sickness, which may strike at any time of the day or night, is one of the classic signs of pregnancy. The name however is a misnomer, since it can strike at any time of the day or night and is more common among women who are under a great deal of stress, wether at work or home. Symptoms can range from moderate, occasional nausea to severe, continuous, disabling nausea with bouts of vomiting and normally improves by the 13th or 14th week of pregnancy, but some women continue to experience nausea into their second trimester. Also, it can be more severe if this is your first pregnancy or if you’re carrying multiple fetuses.

The majority of women who experience morning sickness notice a dramatic improvement after the first trimester – at roughly thirteen weeks. For prevention: Eat frequent small meals, every two or three hours, rather than 3 large meals daily. Try ginger, which has proven effective in fighting morning sickness. Proven ginger products include: ginger tea, ginger candy, and ginger soda. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, despite taking these treatments.

Leukemia – A Cancer Of Blood-Forming Cells In The Bone Marrow

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

Introduction

Leukemia is a cancer of the blood or bone marrow and is characterized by an abnormal growth of blood cells, usually white blood cells (leukocytes)and is divided into its acute and chronic types. It can affect the digestive tract, kidneys, lungs, or other parts of the body and can also collect in the testicles producing swelling. Leukemia is one of the most common forms of cancers in children, But it isn’t just a child’s disease, as many assume. It is routinely diagnosed in about 29,000 adults and 2000 children per year in the United States and has 4 main types and many sub-types of which only some of them are common to children. Leukemia that has migrated to the brain may produce central nervous system effects, such as headaches, seizures, weakness, blurred vision, balance problems, or vomiting and the disease, or the chemotherapy used to treat it, can produce anemia.

Acute Leukemia

Acute leukemia is diagnosed by the speedy growth of immature blood cells, and is potentially curable; However only a small number of individual are cured with current methods. It begins with 1 or a few white blood cells that have a lost or damaged DNA sequence and grows worse very fast and may make you feel ill right away. It tends to develop suddenly, whereas some chronic types may exist for many years before they are even recognize. Immediate treatment is required due to the rapid progression and accumulation of the malignant cells, which then spill over into the bloodstream and spread to other areas of the body. Whereas acute leukemia must be treated immediately, chronic forms are sometimes watched for some time before treatment to produce maximum effectiveness of therapy.

Chronic Leukemia

Chronic leukemia is distinguished by the excessive build up of relatively mature, but still abnormal, blood cells and often goes undiagnosed for many years until it is found in a routine blood test. It is more common between ages 40 and 70 and is rare among young people. It tends to gets worse slowly and may not cause symptoms for years. As with many other cancers, it is a disease that comes with old age. Doctors often find chronic leukemia during a routine checkup, before there are any noticeable symptoms. In adults, the acute types happen in those of all ages, whereas the chronic varieties tend to occur in people older than 40 years of age. Although slow-growing chronic leukemia can also be found in children, it is very rare, accounting for fewer than fifty cases in children each year in the US.

Treatment

Treatment of leukemia is complex and it depends on your age and health, the type and how far it has spread. Treatment is usually considered necessary when the patient exhibits signs and symptoms such as low blood cell numbers. In general, ALL treatment is divided into several phases. In kids, an intensive six-month treatment program is required after induction, followed by 2 yrs of maintenance chemotherapy. For children with low-risk, standard therapy usually consists of three drugs (prednisone, L-asparaginase, and vincristine) for the first month of treatment. High-risk patients receive higher drug doses plus treatment with extra chemotherapeutic agents. Follow-up therapy for ALL patients normally consists of: supportive care, such as intravenous nutrition and therapy with oral antibiotics. In general, the indications for treatment are: falling hemoglobin or platelet count, progression to a later stage of disease, painful, disease-related overgrowth of lymph nodes or spleen, lymphocyte doubling time (an indicator of lymphocyte reproduction) of fewer than 12 months. Overall, the plan is to control bone marrow and systemic disease while offering specific therapy for the central nervous system (CNS), if necessary. Consolidation or “maintenance” treatments may be given to prevent disease recurrence once remission has been achieved. Whatever the plan, it is very important for the patient to understand the therapy that is being used and the reasons behind the choice.

Conclusion

Leukemia is a cancer of blood-forming cells in the bone marrow. These cells crowd out other types of blood cells produced by the bone marrow, including red blood cells, which transport oxygen to tissues throughout your body, and platelets, which help produce blood clots. Leukemia cells can migrate to the lymph nodes or other organs causing edema and/or pain and can also gather in the kidney, liver and spleen, creating enlargement of these organs. They also can affect the lungs and other parts of the body. Acute forms can occur in children and young adults. Chronic types most often occurs in older persons, but can theoretically occur in any age group. There is no single known cause for all of the different types of leukemia. Research has linked exposure to petrochemicals, like benzene, and hair dyes to the development of some types. Viruses have been linked to other forms. Until the cause or causes are found, there is no known way to prevent the occurrence of the disease. Since 1998, it is estimated that every year, approximately 30,800 individuals will be diagnosed with the disease in the US and 21,700 individuals will succomb to the disease.

Colitis – Up To 2,000,000 Persons Have It In The US

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Introduction

Colitis is an acute or long duration inflammation of the membrane lining the colon (your large intestine or bowels) creating sores, called ulcers, in the upper layers of the lining of the large intestine. It can be identified using flexible sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy. In both of these tests, a flexible tube is inserted in the rectum, and specific areas of the colon are evaluated. Colitis may be acute (lasting only a few days) or chronic (lasting weeks or even many months) and may result in bleeding, ulceration, perforation (a hole in the colon). It is best treated when its cause has been determine and specific treatments can be used.

Symptoms

Symptoms can include abdominal pain, diarrhea, dehydration, abdominal bloating, increased intestinal flatulence, and bloody stools and can return in up to 20% of people with this disorder, thus requiring treatment with antibiotics to be repeated. Colitis can be difficult to make a diagnosis because its symptoms are liken to other intestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn disease (also called Crohn’s disease). The 2 most common signs are abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. About half of the people diagnosed with the disease have moderate symptoms. It is not caused by emotional distress or sensitivity to certain foods or food products, but these factors may trigger symptoms in some persons. The stress of living with colitis may also bring about a worsening of symptoms. Some people have remissions periods when the symptoms leave for months or even years. Occasionally, symptoms are severe enough that a person must be hospitalized.

Treatment

Treatment for colitis depends on the severity of the disease and typical begins with prescription anti-inflammatory drugs, such as mesalamine (Rowasa or Canasa) and sulfasalazine (Azulfidine), in order to reduce swelling. Treatment may also encompass taking nutritional supplements to resturn normal growth and sexual development in children and teens. Therapy is directed at the underlying cause of the disease, whether it be infection, inflammation, lack of blood flow, or other causes. The intent is to control the inflammation, diminish symptoms, and replace any lost fluids and nutrients. Treatment varies depending upon which parts of the colon are involved. Each of us experiences colitis differently, so treatment is adjusted for each individual. Sometimes the MD will suggest removing the colon if medical treatment fails or if the side effects of corticosteroids or other drugs threaten the patients health.

If you are already under treatment for inflammatory bowel disease or IBS, contact your MD if you experience any prolonged changes or pass blood in your stools. Also see your MD if you have any of these problems: Diarrhea lasting more than three days, Severe abdominal or rectal pain, Signs of dehydration such as dry mouth, anxiety or restlessness, excessive thirst, little or no urinating, Frequent loose bowel movements during pregnancy, More than 1 other person who shared food with you who has symptoms like yours, for example abdominal pain, fever, and diarrhea, Blood or mucus in your stool, Progressively looser bowel movements, Fever with diarrhea, Pain moving from the area around your belly to your right lower abdomen. You should go to the hospital’s Emergency Department for any of these reasons: Abdominal pain with fever, Severe acute attacks in people diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease, Signs of dehydration in an old or very young person, Progression or appearance of new signs over a few hours, Blood in your stool along with fever and loose bowel movements. Your MD will consider the possible causes of your colitis and any complications that require urgent treatment.

Conclusion

Colitis is an inflammation of the large intestine that can be caused by many different disease processes and is generally diagnose in young people, prior to reaching age 30. Up to 2 million persons in North America are estimated to have either ulcerative colitis or Crohn disease. Jewish people tend to have more incidences of of the disease than non-Jewish people. It affects men and women equally and appears to run in families, with reports of up to 20 percent of people with the disease having a family member or relative with ulcerative colitis or Crohns disease. Along with people of Jewish descent a higher incidence is also seen in caucasions. People with this disease usually have abnormalities of the immune system, but physicians do not know whether these abnormalities are a cause or a result of having the disease.

A number of tests are used to diagnose the disease. A colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy are the most accurate methods for making a diagnosis and ruling out other possible causes, such as Crohns disease, diverticular disease, or cancer. Often x rays using a barium enema or CT scans are also used to diagnose colitis or its complications. There’s no known cure for it, but treatments are available that may dramatically reduce the signs and symptoms and even bring about a long-term remission. Your doctor will decide which tests you require based on your symptoms, medical history, and clinical findings.

Kidney Stones – The Most Painful Experience Of My Life!

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Introduction

Kidney stones, one of the most painful urological disorders, have troubled humans for ages. They form when there is a large amount of calcium oxalate or uric acid in the urine; a lack of citrate in the urine; or insufficient water in the kidneys to dissolve waste products. Kidney stones are most prevalent in persons between the ages of 30 and 45, and the incidence declines after age 50. They can be as small as a grain of sand or as big as a pearl and often do not cause any signs or symptoms.

Symptoms

Stones that cause on going symptoms or other complications can be treated using various techniques, most of which do not need major surgery. Sometimes “silent” stones (those that do not cause symptoms) are found on x-rays taken during a standard health exam. The MD determines if the patient has a history of kidney stones, documents past medical problems, and evaluates present symptoms.

When the stone enters the bladder, the blockage in the ureter is relieved and the symptoms are resolved. Kidney stones usually exit the body by passage in the urine stream, and many are formed and passed without causing any pain. People with severe symptoms might need hospitalization. Call your doctor if you have symptoms or if symptoms return, urination becomes painful, urine output diminishes, or new symptoms develop.

Treatment

Treatment varies, depending on the kind of stone and the cause and usually includes pain medication and increased fluids (to drink) until the stone has exit the body. If a stone has been removed, or if the patient has passed a stone and saved it, an analysis by the laboratory may help the physician in planning treatment. A second twenty four hour urine collection may be needed to determine whether the prescribed treatment is effective. Today, treatment for kidney stones is greatly improved, and many options do not need major surgery and can be performed in an outpatient setting.

To reduce the risk of complications, MDs normally tell patients to avoid taking aspirin and other medications that affect blood clotting for several weeks before treatment. Sometimes the stone is not completely shattered with one treatment, and additional ones may be required. As with any interventional, surgical procedure, potential risks and complications should be discussed with your MD prior to making a final decision.

If no specific treatment is known, you may be able to stave off additional kidney stones simply by drinking more H2O and making some dietary changes. After treatment, the pain may come back if the stone moves and causes blockage in another location. The goal of treatment is to relieve and prevent future symptoms.

Conclusion

Kidney stones are small, hard deposits of mineral and acid salts on the inner surfaces of your kidneys and form when a change happens in the normal balance of water, salts, minerals, and other things found in urine. They are very painful but usually can be removed from the body without causing permanent damage. They usually cause no pain while in the kidneys, but can cause sudden, sharp pain while traveling to the bladder. Kidney stones are more common in developed nations and do have regional variation in occurrence. They occur all year; however, more people seem to develop or become aware of stones during the summer months. They are an ancient problem dating back to the age of the Egyptian pyramids, yet are still a common malady today. Stones are usually passed out of the body within forty eight hours, but attacks can sometimes last for over 30 days. Most however, pass out of the body without help from a physician.

should someone in your family have them, you’re more likely to develop them too and if you’ve already had one or more, you’re at increased risk of developing another. Many people who develop stones are between 20 and 70 years of age. Having high blood pressure doubles your risk. According to The National Institute of Health, 1 person in 10 develops kidney stones during their lifetime and renal stone disease accounts for 10 out of every 1000 hospital admissions. Conventional wisdom and common sense have long held that consumption of excessive calcium could promote the development of kidney stones. However, recent evidence suggests that the consumption of low-calcium diets is ACTUALLY associated with a greater overall risk for the development of kidney stones. Call your MD right away if you have symptoms that suggest you have them.

High Blood Pressure – More Than 65,000,000 In U.S. Have It!

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

Introduction

High blood pressure or HPB means high pressure (tension) in the arteries. It does not mean excessive emotional tension, although emotional tension and stress can cause a short term raise in blood pressure. Hypertension usually exhibits no symptoms, but it can cause terrible problems such as stroke, heart failure, heart attack and kidney failure. It causes the heart to work much harder and can damage the arteries, causing them to narrow faster. It can also be destructive to many parts of the body and is a major health problem in the United States affecting one third of all Americans, according to the American Heart Association.

Hypertension

Hypertension, aka “high blood pressure”, HTN or HPN, is a medical condition in which the blood pressure is chronically raised and is assumed to be present when a person’s systolic blood pressure is consistently 140 mmHg or higher, and/or their diastolic blood pressure is consistently 90 mmHg or higher. It can be classified as either primary or secondary and is one of the most common complex disorders, with genetic implications averaging 30%.

Hypertension can be a short term or lifelong disease, depending on the reason and is dangerous because it causes the heart to work harder than normal. Pre-hypertension is high blood tension between 120 and 139 for the top number, or between 80 and 89 for the bottom number. For example, blood pressure readings of 138/82, 128/89, or 130/86 are all in the pre-hypertension range. Should your blood tension be in the pre-hypertension range, it is more probable that you will end up with hypertension unless you take action to stop it. If you have this form of hypertension, you may not necessarily require medicine.

Heart

Many people may not be aware they have HBP until they have problems with their heart, brain, or kidneys. If it is not found and treated, it can cause the heart to get larger, which can lead to heart failure. With HBP, the heart works harder, your arteries take a beating, and your chances of a stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems are increased. If you don’t have hypertension by age 55, you have a 90 percent likelyhood of developing it at some point in your life, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Left untreated, it will cause the heart to eventually overwork itself to the point at which serious damage can occur. About 50% of people having first-time heart attacks and 67% of people having first-time strokes suffer from HBP.

Did you know, laughing heartily 100 times each day gives the same cardio results as working out for twenty minutes?

Treatment

Treatment is focused on reducing water retention and reducing HBP to normal limits. When you first begin treatment, your doctor may ask you to come to the office regularly. Your doctor will go over the information with you and decide if your treatment program is working or if you need to alter it. Among the 61% who are under treatment, only 35% have their blood tension sufficiently under controlled. For specific medical advice, diagnoses, and treatment, consult your doctor.

Conclusion

Hypertension is called the silent killer because it usually has no signs and is a risk factor for heart and kidney disease and stroke. HBP is not proportionly distributed throughout the population and occurs disproportionately more often in minority groups. High blood pressure rates are also rising among American youth, along with an epidemic of obesity. Hypertension in adults will usually be measured on at least two different doctor appointments before a diagnosis is ascertain. It can be treated with both lifestyle modifications, usually as the first step, and, if needed, with drugs. Diuretics work in the kidney and flush excess water and sodium from the body. Nearly 33% of American adults have high blood pressure. Once It starts, it often lasts a lifetime. Fortunately, it can be easily found, and once you know you have it, you can work with your doctor to control it.

Menopause Herbal Supplements For Relief Of Menopausal Symptoms

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

Very few women manage to get through menopause without going through some unpleasant symptoms. And it’s hard to predict just how long these symptoms can last. It’s not unheard of for symptoms to continue for years. If you are suffering with the symptoms of menopause, herbal supplements can give you relief.

Of course, Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can do the trick as well. But if have concerns about some of the long term side effects that come with taking HRT, then you may want to try something natural.

Herbal remedies have been used down through the years by women and they work. You may not get relief as quickly as you would with HRT, but they are an effective and safe way of dealing with menopausal symptoms.

Menopause occurs at the point in time when menstruation stops. This happens gradually and unevenly, as the production of estrogen tapers off. This tapering off creates an imbalance in hormonal levels. The result of this imbalance is the symptoms associated with menopause, like mood swings, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and more.

To get relief from these unpleasant side effects of menopause, the balance of estrogen in the body needs to be restored. Certain herbs or combinations of herbs have proven to be effective in doing that. Unlike HRT, not all herbs relieve all symptoms. To relieve specific symptoms, you need to choose herbs which work to relieve those symptoms.

Herbs used for menopause symptom relief basically fall into two different groupings; phytoestrogenic and non-estrogenic. Each type works in a different way.

Phytoestrogenic herbs contain natural plant estrogen. Plant estrogen can replace the estrogen in a woman’s system and by doing that can directly relieve her symptoms.

Red clover and black cohosh are two of the most common phytoestrogenic herbs and they are known to regulate the estrogen levels in the body.

Herbs which are non-estrogenic don’t contain natural estrogen. Instead they work by stimulating the body’s endocrine system to produce its own estrogen. One highly regarded non-estrogenic herb is macafem. It has been shown to help naturally relieve menopausal symptoms.

Non-estrogenic herbs are thought to be even safer than phytoestrogenic herbs as they don’t add estrogen directly to the body.

How well herbal remedies work will vary from woman to woman. Some factors that may affect their effectiveness include the severity and kind of symptoms, other medication being taken, and when menopause began.

There is no disputing the fact that many women have been able to get relief from uncomfortable menopause symptoms through the use of herbs. But it can be hard to figure out just what herbs will work best and how much they need to take to get relief.

Often the most effective way of taking these herbs is in supplement form. That’s because for the treatment of the symptoms of menopause, herbal supplements have been developed to contain the optimal amount of specific herbs that work best.

Herbal supplements can get rid of the unpleasant symptoms associated with menopause. But menopause supplements reviews have shown a big variation in how well different supplements work. Go to http://www.natural-menopause-supplements.com/ to find out more about finding the right supplement.

Causes And Types Of Menopause – Getting Menopause Symptom Relief

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Menopause most often occurs naturally as a woman ages, but sometimes it can occur as the result of a medical intervention. Three basic types of menopause have been identified, with each type having a different cause. But whatever the type or the cause, during menopause, most women will experience some less than pleasant symptoms. The good news is there are some things that you can do in order to get menopause symptom relief.

The first and most common type is referred to as natural menopause. This occurs at the end of a woman’s reproductive years. You know it has happened when the menstrual cycle has been absent for a period of one full year. Natural menopause usually occurs between the ages of forty and fifty-eight. But the average age of menopause is fifty-one.

A second type is premature menopause. This takes place when the end of the menstrual cycle begins prior to age forty and has stopped for a full year. There are several reasons why premature menopause occurs. Factors such as autoimmune processes, genetics, or medical interventions like chemotherapy cause this type of menopause.

There is a lower risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer when a woman goes through premature menopause. But there is a greater risk of possibly developing osteoporosis.

A third type of menopause is referred to as induced or medical menopause. This is the result of severe damage to the ovaries which is often caused by medical interventions such as chemotherapy. It can also occur when the ovaries are removed.

Better than fifty percent of all women who receive chemotherapy develop either temporary or permanent menopause. The younger a woman is when she receives chemo, the more likely that the menopause will be only temporary. But for women ages forty-five and up, menopause is likely to be permanent.

When ovaries are removed surgically, the onset of menopause is fast and often menopausal symptoms are quite severe.

If you are going through menopause, then like the majority of women, you may be experiencing symptoms. So regardless of the type or cause of your menopause, what really matters is getting menopause symptom relief.

There is no one size fits all when it comes to symptoms. That’s because each of us is unique. We all had different experiences when we had our periods and when we were pregnant. So it stands to reason that even though we all have the same type of hormones in our body, how they affect each of us is very different.

Many of our symptoms are caused because our hormones are out of balance. The best way to deal with our symptoms is by returning our hormones to the proper balance. And it can be done without having to use doctor prescribed drugs.

But many women are looking for a more natural solution. It’s possible to manage menopausal symptoms by making lifestyle and nutrition changes. And there are many alternative therapies which can help.

The good part is that you do not have to just put up with these symptoms. There are many things that you can do to get menopause symptom relief.

For a safer alternative to hormone replacement therapy, many women are choosing natural supplements. Find out why menopause supplements for women can be effective in easing the unpleasant symptoms of menopause. Visit http://www.natural-menopause-supplements.com/ for more information.

Gout Symptoms – Are You Sure You Have Gout?

Sunday, January 23rd, 2011

There are a few conditions that can produce results similar, with slight differences, to gout symptoms. Gout is a form of arthritis so you may have a form of arthritis such as Rheumatoid arthritis, also known as RA, or Osteoarthritis. You could also have an infection of the joint, with swelling and redness which would require antibiotics. Knowing the differences will help you find a remedy for your gout attack. Gout affects the joints, just like the more familiar forms of arthritis.

For half of the people with gout, the joint affected is the big toe. This is called Podagra. But Gout also can attack your wrists, fingers, ankles, knees and elbows.

The most common gout symptoms are extreme pain and tenderness, redness (could be purplish as well, resembling an infection), swelling and warmth. It differs from the other forms of arthritis mentioned above in that the symptoms come on rapidly and usually at night when your body temperature is lower and you are not moving around. The pain can be so intense that even the weight of a bed sheet can cause terrible pain and discomfort. It will usually last a few hours and then start to dissipate over the next few days or weeks.

Not all people get the symptoms that are painful. Other symptoms can be little nodules, like bumps, called tophi on their ears, hands, elbows or knees. These are painless and are actually nodules of uric acid crystals. Tophi can also attach to your kidneys which would result in kidney stones. Other symptoms include high fever and fatigue, fatigue being common in arthritis sufferers.

Testing by a doctor is the only way to know for sure if you have gout.

Blood tests: Research has found that while some conditions such as hyperuricemia (an abnormally high level of uric acid in the blood) is a classic sign of gout, it only appears in roughly half of the people that develop gout. Some people with hyperuricemia never develop gout.

Your doctor can also test the fluid that our bodies use to clean our joints called Synovial fluid. If this fluid contains uric acid crystals then you have gout.

When symptoms begin there are natural gout remedies you can get at your grocery store that you can try to alleviate the pain. Gout diets and gout foods can help prevent future pains.
