Girls Rule, Boys Drool

My girlfriends and talk about the craziest things when we’re yakking on Facebook. Recently we reminisced about high school and the utterly crazy accessories we all wore back then.

One of us came up with the awesome idea to forgo a weekend of settling for only being able to discuss our crazy topics in the virtual world (i.e. Adult Acne 101, anyone?), and instead find a place where we could all enjoy a getaway together at a fabulous spa, chit chat about lives, family, old times and hopefully help put us all on the road for achieving a healthy lifestyle.

After spending a full day shopping for bargain apparel that would impress my friends and minimize the effects of aging the years brought, I made the journey to the resort and spa in the mountains. During my trip, I remembered all the information on the resort’s website that outlined all the conditions helped by spa treatments. While I knew wraps and facials could help with dry skin, I did not know that some treatments could help with body health, allergies, and other conditions that I thought were the sole domain of dermatology.

Upon my entrance, I sat anxiously waiting to see my old girlfriends that I hadn’t seen since my infamous senior year perm. My anxiousness quickly dissipated once they all arrived and we fell back into a grove as if not a day had gone by.

We spent most of the night trading secrets about how we maintain our sanity in our hectic lives, laughing about some of our more bizarre ways to look good while running the kids around town, trying to meet deadlines, and then going on date night all on the same day. Who knew the fun someone could have playing a game with the kids that involved sliding down the hardwood floors in the hall with Cuban mops attached to their feet. We then played the anti-aging game suggested by someone who worked at the spa trying to come up with ingenious recipes for antioxidant rich foods, which are essential for women’s health.

Despite not sleeping, we were sure to not miss our skin treatments the following morning, but I think we may have all fallen asleep during the treatments! In the end, the girls and I not only improved out physical health via spa treatments, but we improved our overall emotional healthy simply by spending time together.

Flax seed is now becoming more well known for having numerous benefits because it contains Omega 3 fatty acids which we all know is good for the heart and can fight other diseases.

Flax seed is very small and can be eaten as a snack because it is quite tasty but people prefer to sprinkle the seeds on salad and food because they are similar to sesame seeds but flax seeds are much more numerous and important!

Before, flax seed is only known to fight mild to moderate constipation and even though this is not its only benefit now, this is still proven to be true even though it is not as strong as other chemical based products that are being sold over the counter.

Flax seed can be found in a lot of health food stores and can be bought cheaply. This is one reason why people who would like to get their daily dose of Omega 3 but have a strict budget would rather buy flax seed than fish oil. Just remember that flax seed cannot be heated because the heat will change its natural components and it will not be beneficial anymore.

The reason why flax seed is becoming the rage right now is because of omega 3 which is not naturally processed by the body. Omega 3 is known for its ability to break down existing cholesterol in the body and can prevent cholesterol build up. Omega 3 can also help people with skin problems because it controls the hormone levels of the body.

There are also studies now which state that omega 3 is actually good for the brain because it helps people think and concentrate better. The best sources of omega 3

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Most people know that Fish oil gives the body a lot of benefits. Besides the fact that it contains a lot of Omega-3 fatty acids, it has also been proven to help cure certain diseases. Our bodies do not naturally produce fatty acids and this is the reason why we have to eat certain food to get our daily dose of it.

Another source of Omega 3 fatty acids is flax seed which is also known as linseed. This is a very good substitute for fish oil because it also contains a form of Omega 3. Flax seed has already been used for many years to help in digestion but according to recent studies, flax seed also contains ALA fatty acids which can be converted into Omega 3 fatty acids.

Because of this, a lot of consumers have been asking what really the better source of fatty acids is. This is because of course people want the best source to make their heart healthier.

According to research, flax seeds contain anti inflammatory properties and flax oil even contains the ALA fatty acids which can be converted into Omega 3 fatty acids. There is a downside however some people cannot convert the ALA fatty acids so they would not be able to get the benefits that they deserve to get. It has been recommended by experts that people who cannot convert ALA fatty acids just find another source of Omega 3 fatty acids.

Fish oil can be another source of fatty acids because it doesn’t have to be converted. However, there is also a downside to fish oil. It must be noted that there are fish oils that have not been thoroughly cleaned or are not pure enough to contain the benefits that fish oil is supposed to have.

But then also, we must take note than in choosing fish oil, we must choose the purest that is available because unpurified fish oil won’t really do its job and will not provide people with benefits because it has already been polluted and there is a chance that when people take unpurified fish oils, they will also consume the heavy metals that will come with it.

It is also important for people who eat fish in their diet that they take fishes that have not preyed on smaller fishes. Do remember, that there are still other sources of Omega 3 fatty acids such as plants and nuts.

If you enjoyed this write-up you most likely would like to understand more about side effects of fish oil or many other tips and info on best fish oil supplements so make certain to check out my blog which covers in abundance subjects such as nutritional vitamins and others.

How to Transition from Beginning to Intermediate Bodybuilding

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

When you’ve become comfortable with the different routines and training schedules of professional bodybuilders, you’ll need to move on to the intermediate stage to start making significant changes to your body. The beginner’s stage is essential for warming up the muscles, increasing strength and building up endurance so you can handle more intensive exercises. However, you can’t stay at this stage for too long before experiencing diminishing returns on your investment. You’ll need to increase your resistance level and make some changes to your lifestyle in order to really benefit from your hard work. In order to transition from the beginner’s stage to the intermediate stage of bodybuilding, you will need to:

Getting at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep – Getting enough rest is important for your metabolism. Our bodies undergo an extensive repair during deep sleep or the REM cycle. Your body needs time to recover from all the tension it experienced during the day. We are more likely to reach deep sleep if we sleep for 7 to 9 hours per day.

Increase your level of intensity -You’ll need to work towards higher intensity and fewer reps if you want to increase muscle mass. You’ll only get stronger when you build up your muscles and push yourself to a point of ‘fatigue’, or the point where you cannot lift or push for another rep. During the beginning stages, you may have been involved with doing several sets and reps with lighter weights to become comfortable with the movements. At the intermediate stage, you’ll need to reduce the number of sets and focus on increasing the level of resistance.

Control your diet – Your diet can make or break your training program. Author Bill Pearl, of the book “Getting Stronger”‘ states that bodybuilders need to get nutrients, calories, proteins and carbs from the right food sources to help the body recover from workouts and build new muscles. Make it a habit to eat fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains to fulfill your nutritional needs.

Decrease your resting time in between sets – Decreasing the time of your rest in between sets will ensure that you are working up your muscles hard enough. Push your muscles to their limits by doing another set or exercise as soon as possible.

Maintain your cardio workout – Don’t ever forget to do three 30-minute cardio workouts in a week. Cardio will ultimately help you achieve your fitness goals by improving your metabolism, develop your hearts and lungs, increase endurance and even improve your flexibility.

Bodybuilding Nutrition – Benefits of High Protein Shakes

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

All bodybuilders, athletes and fitness enthusiasts that want to improve their stamina and performance and keep their body in great shape throughout training season need to adhere to a quality nutrition program. High protein shakes are a necessary addition to the average training nutrition program because they are easily digested and can help with the muscle repair and recovery process almost instantaneously.

There are dozens of different types of protein shakes, powders and supplements available, and most athletes consume supplements made with whey or soy proteins. Other options for high protein shakes and supplements include rice protein powder, and protein supplements that contain creatine and other muscle-enhancing ingredients. Mauro G. Di Pasquale, author of the book “Amino Acids and Proteins for the Athlete” points out that studies have shown how whey and whey protein possess special properties not found in milk proteins.

Homemade high protein shakes are created by blending a mixture composed of protein powers, yogurt, fruits, oats and an optional sweetener and can be consumed as a meal replacement or as a snack. To answer the need of convenience, some supplement companies have made ready to drink formulas to save you time and effort so you will not have trouble yourself with making homemade shakes.

Most high protein shakes are complete meal replacements and are high in vital amino acids, mineral and vitamins. There are some ready to drink shakes that are nutritionally balanced and are used as part of a fat burning diet. Most bodybuilders and athletes have very strict low-carb diets, and choose to intake high protein shakes regularly everyday so that they can get their nutritional needs using a healthy option.

Ingredients such as whey protein and other kinds of protein improves metabolism and are a steady energy source. Homemade high protein shakes that contain a variety of fresh fruits and oatmeal are energy boosters which have high nutrient, mineral and vitamin content. After a strenuous workout, this can be taken to prevent the lowering of blood sugar levels and to promote muscle repair.

Still, one of the biggest benefits of high protein shakes is the rapid digestion and absorption rate. There are only a few foods that athletes and bodybuilders are advised to consume after an intensive workout, since the foods eaten immediately after exercise are likely to be absorbed and utilized more quickly than other times of the day. Consuming a high protein shake immediately after a workout ensures maximum absorption so that the nutrients can help with the muscle recovery process within hours. This reduces the risk of injury and can also keep the appetite under control.

To get maximum muscle gain and improve overall metabolism, plan the timing the consumption of your high protein shakes, protein powders and supplements. After exercise or in between meals, you may take supplements to get rid of hunger pangs and fully utilize the peak of absorption rate. Athletes and bodybuilders nutrition program can be integrated with the high quality nutrient value found in protein powders and shakes, which gives the maximum efficiency per calorie.
